LinkedInLinkedIn have rolled out a new feature that will be a great benefit to anyone who has been using the platform to engage with their audience.

The new feature allows you to mention people and companies in status updates and conversations in a similar way to Facebook or Twitter.  When you start typing in your status entry box a name that appears in your connections or comments a dropdown menu will appear and you can click them into your post.

The person you have added to your post will then get a notification alerting them to the post and the mention.

This will remove a lot of friction from the current arrangements and enable a more real-time dialog to occur. Take a look at the slide share below to walk through the process.

How does it work?

  • Begin by typing the name of a connection or a company in your status update box or a comment field on the Homepage.

  • Select someone from the list of your connections that appear in the drop-down, complete your status or comment and post it.

  • The person or company you mentioned will receive a notification alerting them that they have been mentioned.
